In 1997 the Mirage went through its final redesign and the four-door sedan made its return; though the Chrysler clone cars were no longer available. At this time, the lineup consisted of a notchback two-door coupe and a revised four-door sedan, both offered in the base DE (renamed to ES in 2001) trim or the more upscale LS trim. The DE models had a 1.5-liter, 4 cylinder engine producing 92 horsepower, while the LS was powered by a 1.8-liter, 4 cylinder engine producing 113 horsepower. Standard on both was a five-speed manual transmission, with an optional four-speed automatic offered. LS models also offered optional power windows, power locks, cruise control, sunroof, and 14-inch wheels. In 2002, the last production year for the Mirage, only the coupes were sold as the Mirage was replaced by the Mitsubishi Lancer the following year.
